We all have our own DNA, just like fruits. It’s about how we extend our personal strength and leverage it professionally. But the first thing that makes us choose between a strawberry and an apple is the exterior. It’s amazing how synergetic our professional brand building is with fruits. We all go through our professional lives thinking there’s so much we could and would’ve done to create impact.
It becomes so easy to disregard the little things that could go a long way in making an impact in that effort to go after the bigger things. We miss aspects as basic as cleaning up our first facade to the professional world such as our GlobalLinker Profile. You might be in the mood for an apple, but sometimes just looking at the way those berries are packaged and placed – glossy, clean, juicy & seemingly full of flavour – makes us want to get them!
There’s no question that you are your own biggest marketer:
1. Embrace your own DNA: A strawberry isn’t going to survive in your bag the way an orange or apple will – but it’s sure to give you that specific taste you want. A lot of us shy away from talking about who we are. You could be Head of Finance Operations in a bank, but are also really passionate about the tech space. Make sure you assert select keywords that describe you beyond the realm of your immediate professional arena: Ex. Fin-tech Aficionado; Technology Chief Head – XYZ Bank.
2. Noteworthy Contributions & Affiliations: We all know there are amazing connections a strawberry can make with whipped cream & chocolate. Building your reputation beyond the current job or role you have is critical. Whether you’ve been a TED talker; coach; mentor– put that in – upfront and centre!
3. Assert your impact: At the end of the day, you’ve got to make sure it’s not just your work, but your impact work that speaks for itself. You know that strawberries are packed with Vitamin C, but if you knew Vitamin C helps boost immunity, lowers hypertension, promotes eye-health & combats cancer, you’d probably consume a lot more! So go ahead and mention the projects you’ve driven; but be sure to mention their larger impact.
Your online profile does reflect your brand and could be the stepping board to greater opportunities in the future. Be conscious of this.
